The Construction Development Board (CDB) in collaboration with the Bhutan National Legal Institute concluded a 3 day training on “Alternative Dispute Resolution – Arbitration and Mediation skills and techniques” on 22 June, 2014. The proposal of the CDB received the blessings of Her Royal Highness the President of the BNLI and the institute developed a comprehensive training program. The training mostly focused on the provisions of the “Alternative Dispute Resolution Act of Bhutan 2013”. A diverse group of 23 participants consisting of the interim National Arbitration Committee (NAC) members, officials of the Ministry of Works and Human Settlement, Construction Development Board and a representative of the Construction Association of Bhutan.
The training was felt necessary so as to equip the NAC members and the secretariat officials with the skills and techniques of arbitration and mediation. The CDB currently serves as the secretariat to the interim NAC to facilitate arbitration of cases pertaining to construction. Four Hon’ble justices of the Supreme Court and High Court were invited as guest lecturers who spoke to the participants on various subjects besides the officials of the BNLI who conducted the training.
