Objectives:
- Encourage construction industry to produce works of high standards
- Create awareness in the industry on the importance of achieving the highest level of safety, health, quality and environmental aspects
- Continuously upgrade their performance to achieve the desired results
- Provide opportunity to share information adopted by the award recipients
- Motivate contractors in the national and regional competition
Guidelines for construction excellence award
- The excellence awards are for engineering construction projects of civil, electrical and mechanical. Projects nominated must have been completed during the last five years.
- The award is to recognize the construction projects who have achieved outstanding and credible recognition in its venture, demonstrating excellent performance.
- The nomination is open to all public projects
- The assessment shall be based on single project submitted by the nominee.
- The criteria used for the assessment of the project shall be as follows:
1. Completion time
The completion time shall be submitted along with the nomination form. The assessment will be done as within time or beyond time (yes or no criteria). If the completion time has increased due to additional work or other justifiable reasons and if time extension is granted on genuine grounds, it has to be supported by documentary evidences and should be considered.

The assessment is based on the degree of compliance of materials used, workmanship with the specifications and drawings. On the basis of the records and site inspections and using his experience and technical skills, the evaluator should make assessment objectively.
3. Type and contract value:
Number of projects completed during the last five years; the initial and the final contract amount. The supporting documents to evidence the final contract price shall be submitted along with the nomination form. The assessment will be done within contract price or beyond contract price, (yes or no criteria). If the contract price has increased due to additional work or other justifiable reasons, it has to be supported by documentary evidences.
4. Management and Technical capability:
Project management: Ability to manage projects with minimum delays, within cost, able to develop and follow work plans. The brief work methodology used in the implementation, work plans and resource planning have to be submitted.
Financial management: Cash flow (copies of up-to-date accounts statement shall be attached) contractor’s financial condition such as submission of performance security, liquid asset, cash flow, payments to labour/staffs, subcontractors and suppliers, and proper use of advances should be assessed;
Human resource management: Number of key personnel and other employees, permanent employees, employees’ benefit schemes and health and safety aspects of workers;
Methods of project implementation: Innovative construction methods, timely planning, mobilization of resources.
Construction techniques:
· Equipment: Owning and deployment of equipment; skill of operators, equipment utilization and construction techniques.
· Supervision: Qualification, knowledge, experience and skill of supervisors;
5. Environmental/ Site Management
The factors like Waste disposal, Living quality of workers at site and Environmental management plan.
Here the project will be awarded points based on the site conditions and the life quality of the workers with respect to the sanitary conditions, provisions of safety equipments, accommodations for the workers the impact on the environment which will include wildlife, aquatic life, vegetation and the local population, if the project is located in the vicinity of a settlement.
Nomination procedure:
- Employer will compile the nomination and submit to CDB
- CDB will appoint a committee to assess the nomination
